This site exists to provide a little extra fun outside of AudioQuake games. Here you can track how well you are doing with respect to the rest of the community of AudioQuake players (and, more importantly, your past performance). You can also use this site to help find Internet games (though for advanced use we recommend you download QStat).
back to topWhenever anyone sets up an AudioQuake server, it reports back to a "master" here at agrip.org.uk that a game has begun. The list of currently available public game servers is generated from this master list. When you visit the server list page, you're presented with a completely up-to-date version of this list. It is generated using QStat, which is an accessible "server browser". If you would like to fine-tune your searches for Internet games, by all means download and use it directly.
On the stats side of things, we use Qlog to keep tabs on how all known AudioQuake players are doing. The stats are gathered by a program written by us which asks each of the known game servers (from the master list) for frag reports. These reports are collated here and the stats pages are automatically regenerated every hour.
back to topAs a player, all you need to do is play a game on any public AudioQuake server (which you can find via the server list page).
Please have a go at running your own AudioQuake server(s). It can be quite rewarding and fun. As a server admin, you don't need to do anything at all to make your setup work with this site - AudioQuake servers report back to the master server here automatically.
back to topThough we feel it is generally a great idea for community servers to report stats back to us, there are times when it is not appropriate. It isn't really fair to make a server that is designed to be a friendly place for newbies (or a friendlies match server) report stats back. For this reason, it is entirely possible to keep your server advertised in our master list, but prevent it from reporting frags back to us. The AudioQuake Manual explains how to do this.
back to topBy default, AudioQuake servers log the frags that take place on them. They make this information available both in frag log files ("frag_*.log" in the "agrip" directory) and over the Internet to our stats-gathering program. You don't need to do anything with the frag log files your server generates to contribute to the stats on this site so it is safe to delete them.
A server that has been configured not to report stats back to us will not generate frag log files either.
back to topIf you're running a private LAN party or simply prefer to keep your server(s) to you and your friends, you can opt out of both the public server list and stats systems very easily. Do this by removing the line that reads "setmaster agrip.org.uk" from your server.cfg file.
The result of this will be that your server no longer shows up when anyone asks for the list of public AudioQuake servers and our stats reporting program will not contact your server to ask for the latest frags that have taken place.
Please consider keeping your server public, however; by allowing others to connect and sharing stats you will be supporting the community and encouraging others to do the same. We have only a limited number of official servers, with finite slots for players and would like everyone to be able to play when they want, if possible.
back to topAlthough we'd prefer that you keep your server(s) public, so as to help all AudioQuake players, it is certainly possible for you to set up your own stats site using the system that we have here. It would be a great idea to do this for a tournament or LAN party and we'd be happy to help.
If you're interested in creating your own stats web site, please contact us and we'll send you the code that runs this site. If there is sufficient demand, we'll release it publicly under the GPL.
